Dream job

Although I thought I already had my dream property, when combined with the job opportunity this surely beats everything.
I came across it on another blog a few weeks ago and haven't been able to stop thinking about it since.
'Knitters wanted for Fair Isle', National Trust properties to rent, population 65. I think this encapsulates all my dreams in one - knitting (fair isle being my favourite), lovely old property, loads of open space, by the sea (anywhere you go) and very few people. Perfect.

What the fukuoka?

Tonight I was at the launch party for Parallel Realities - the new Japanese art exhibition in Blackburn. It' part of C21, an arts project we have been working on for a while. A whole collection of stuff has been shipped over from the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum to exhibit in various venues around town. There is some really great stuff, some bizarre stuff and some completely barking mad stuff, but well worth a visit. As well as the art, a bunch of Japanese artists have come over to do some work here, but so far all they seem to do is walk around town looking absolutely bewildered rather than doing any art (unless that is the art??? who can tell???)

Hip to be square

Finally finished Squarey, isn't he cute. I knitted most of him back in November but only just got around to sewing him together. He was supposed to be for peaheads computer chair, but I love him so much I think he is going to have to live on the sofa in the front room. Toys with a practical purpose, brilliant.

London Lights vs tea and cake

I went down to see the London Lights exhibition at the New London Architecture centre as I'm working on a building lighting scheme at the moment. They have a great model of London as part of their permanent exhibition too.

I also went for a quick look around the British Museum. I love the new glass ceiling, but it creates a really strange atmosphere. It's like being outside but without any air movement at all. Weird.

London is good for a day or so, but it's always good to get back home. Today I made a Hungarian chocolate cake from the Green & Black's book we got for Christmas. It's looks ok, but doesn't taste so good. Maybe Bert will eat it for breakfast tomorrow!

Done.

Phew, finally handed in all of my essays for last term. I have to go to London tomorrow for work, but after that the weekend is mine. I can't wait.

Deer spotting

Today I am working from home. I just took a break to walk Bert down the lane and spotted a wild deer. I could kick myself for not having my camera but it was wonderful to see. It stood and looked back at me for a couple of seconds before it gracefully jumped the fence and ran off into the woods. I'm so pleased I saw it as it's been ages since I spotted one and was worried they had all been killed.

Last year we saw them in groups of fours and fives, sometimes with two or three babies but I know several have been killed by speeding cars and hunters since then. I spotted tracks of a pair in the snow just before Christmas, but feared these too had been killed in the New Year as killing wild animals (deer, badgers and rabbits) seems to be a popular New Years holiday persuit by some local idiots. I just hope this one isn't the last.

I am not sure what kind of deer they are, but have been told by locals these are
Japanese rather than the more common Roe Deer.

No time for cuddling white cat

Having a break at Christmas was great, but it just means that there is twice as much to do back at work. I'm sick of not getting home until 8pm and then having to think about doing stuff for uni when all I really want to do is play with white cat and do a bit of knitting.

Anyway.....enough moaning. I'm supposed to be writing another an essay, but I just wanted to post a quick update about white cat. Yes, he is still with us. Despite putting up posters and getting Rosie (my neighbour) to ask at all the farms and houses when she does her paper round, no one seems to know who he is. He has settled in very well (perhaps too well....I'm not sure I could cope with five cats!) although I have had to try and wash him as he is very dirty and smelly. Not sure what to do now. If no one comes for him, I guess I'll try and find him a new home. I'm sure someone will take him as he is a lovely cat, very friendly and just likes to sleep, eat and cuddle. I think he is quite old.

Posh kitty

It's been a quite and lazy weekend. Peahead took me to Manchester Friday afternoon. I got a cute new phone sock to stop my phone getting messed up in my bag.
A trip to China town for supplies also resulted in another lucky cat. If these things really work, we should be due some luck soon as I have about six of them. This one hangs above the doorway and chimes a little when someone comes in.

After sorting out the babes we enjoyed doing nothing on Saturday. Peahead made us a lovely masman curry and then we watched a movie (Sideways).

Today I started my Landscape Planning paper for uni. It's due in on Thursday so there'll be some late nights this week. I managed to make kitty a little pink collar tonight though. Doesn't she look posh. I wish I knew how to take a good picture of kitty, it's so hard because she is so black and shiny.

Probably won't get chance to post anything next week as I have a few evening meetings as well as that paper.

Giant knitting

I have started my rug with the giant knitting needles dad made me for Christmas. It's surprisingly easy, although it's going to take much more material than I imagined. To knit this much I used two metres of thick wool fabric. I only bought four metres, but figure for it to pass as a rug rather than a door mat I'll need at least eight to ten metres!. Luckily I found a great remnant shop in Nelson yesterday and the fabric I'm using is only a £1 a metre.

Whilst in Nelson I also picked up these old embroidery prints. I have no idea how to embroider them, but I thought they were really pretty. I also got an embroidery ring and two stitch holders - all for a grand total of 30p. I love charity shops.
