Deer spotting

Today I am working from home. I just took a break to walk Bert down the lane and spotted a wild deer. I could kick myself for not having my camera but it was wonderful to see. It stood and looked back at me for a couple of seconds before it gracefully jumped the fence and ran off into the woods. I'm so pleased I saw it as it's been ages since I spotted one and was worried they had all been killed.

Last year we saw them in groups of fours and fives, sometimes with two or three babies but I know several have been killed by speeding cars and hunters since then. I spotted tracks of a pair in the snow just before Christmas, but feared these too had been killed in the New Year as killing wild animals (deer, badgers and rabbits) seems to be a popular New Years holiday persuit by some local idiots. I just hope this one isn't the last.

I am not sure what kind of deer they are, but have been told by locals these are
Japanese rather than the more common Roe Deer.
