There's a moose loose...

Today Peahead finally fixed my new hall light. I love it. It looks like hundreds of little birds flying up the stairs.

He put up my moose light too, so together the whole staircase looks magical. I think I may sleep in there tonight! Thanks, Peahead, I love it.

In an attempt to become more domesticated this weekend, I started wearing my new pinny that I got from the car boot sale a couple of weeks ago. I got two, a pink one and a brown one. I like to imagine some old lady made them in the 70's.

White cat has been feeling a little left out as he hasn't got his own bed. For weeks now, he has been hanging around the other cats and taking every opportunity to sit on their beds when they aren't looking. Since he is here to stay, I figured it was only right he got his very own so I made him one out of an old jumper that doesn't fit me any more. He seemed quite pleased with it, but already it is covered in white hair.

Goat walking

As usual we have been very busy. Inspired by this picture, I devised a way to save time. I taught the goats to take themselves for a walk. Now I just need to teach them to chop their own veg, fill their own water bucket and muck the shed out!

Although I have been slacking with my posts as usual, I do add pictures to
flickr quite often as it's a bit quicker to do.

Sunny sunday smile

Only had to work a few hours this morning, so on the way home called at
Gisburn car boot. For the grand total of £4.50 I picked up an old metal mopping bucket (much nicer than the horrid grey plastic one I have been using), a lovely Kenojuak Ashevak print (not an original!), two cute Shelleys cake plates and a beautiful vintage bead necklace with a pretty silver clasp.

I have loved this kind of Inuit and Native Canadian art since my mama took me to visit relatives in
British Columbia when I was young. I would love a real Kenojuak print - if anyone has a few grand to splash out on a present for me, this is one of my favourites.

This picture of Kenojuak is stuck to the back of the print I bought.

Later I went for a walk. Bosie and white cat came along too. I tried to get Oscar to come but he was being stubborn and just sat down when I put his lead on.

Surprisingly, Bo didn't seem to mind being without Osc (they are normally inseparablee) and he enjoyed lots of tasty leaves and thistles which don't grow in his field.

He insisted on taking some samples back to share with Oscar though!

Lancashire Country Show

Today I worked at the Royal Lancashire Show. It's about the fourth time I have done it and even though it's a really hard day, it's always lots of fun.

The lamas and alpacas were lovely. The alpacas had been shaved to make wool and they looked like baby camels with poodle cuts.

What's with this fringe?

This is the biggest sheep i have ever seen!

This was the little guy I wanted to bring home.

Perhaps one of these would be better - apparently the smallest sheep in the world. It would take years to get enough wool to knit a pair of mittens from one of these little chaps.

I also got time to go see the nubians and had a chat with a nice man who showed me how to cut the babes toe nails. It doesnt seem too difficult, so I may invest in a good knife and give it a go. His goats were realy well groomed. He said that he had given them two baths before the show, but somehow I don't think Oscar and Bosie are the bathing type!

Hot, hot, hot!

It's been so hot, hot, hot, but everyone seems to be enjoying it.

What cars?

There is a water leak down the road which means we haven't had much water. It's hard work trying to keep the garden watered. United Utilities say they will fix it next week. It only took us complaining every day for a month!

the bits in between.....

May was busy with work and assignments for uni. I tried not to miss out on the few bits of good weather, by doing most of my homework in the greenhouse.

There was no time for gardening, but the plants sorted themselves out and I enjoyed them anyway.

In the middle of it all, Peahead and Bert cheered me up with an early morning trip up to the top of Pendle Hill.

The only things I made in May were a couple of new face cloths to take on holiday. The blue one works really well, but the white one is a little stiff and has ended up as a dish cloth.

Went to see
Dinosaur Jr in Manchester.

White cat moved in permanently.

Bert finally figured out how to herd the goats. He now makes sure they stay in the field eating the grass and not in my garden eating the vegetables!

With June came our long awaited holiday to France.

Me and Peahead on the roof of a castle.

A snail squidging himself behind a perspex sign. I guess he figures no one will eat him there.

A lovely house and garden we visited.

We took a boat ride at the town where they made the film Chocolat.

Still here....

Stunning Plane trees in France.

I know, I know....it's been a while, but things just got a bit crazy for a while - uni work, real work and a whole load of other stuff. Things have settled a bit now and we are finally starting to enjoy the summer after a well deserved break in the south of France. Will try and get back on top of this blog and keep everyone up to date from now on.

Boered, RIP Freddy

Tonight i have added another link to my blog. My Boering Life. I watched the story of Freddy until the end. We all cried. Boered loves her goats more than anything and 'my boering life' is a lovey diary of a gal living in Indiana looking after a bunch of real lucky goats. Check it out.

Peahead's birthday weekend

Monday was Peahead's birthday, but we celebrated early and made the most of the weekend. On Saturday we took a trip to the big city to buy a present. He picked this lovely Wilco print from the Richard Goodall Gallery.

We had lunch at Oklahoma, a cool veggie cafe, gallery, gift shop, where all the fixtures and fittings are recycled or second hand including all the cups, plates, knives and forks, salt and pepper - it's ace! (whose birthday was this?).

Peahead's mum on the swing

Sunday, peahead's family came to visit on mass. What a house full! We sat ouside in the sun for a while then went over to our favouite pub the Cross Gaits for tea. Mr B loved the swing and slide, so did everyone else! A helicopter landing made things interesting too.

Darren and Nicky

As if to mark the occassion, the first seed to pop it's head up was a pea.

Other things this week.....

The tulips have finally started to open. I bought white ones, but I swear these look yellow to me.

I took the day off today to catch up with course work, but we went to the supermarket for supplies first. Bert loves to come shopping in the car, even if it means having to sit on a bag of compost.

Dolly has started catching mice again. She has never caught a bird, but perhaps she needs to be a little more inconspicuous.
