Little Caterpillar

Tried some embroidery tonight. It's not very neat and it took me ages. I guess the whole thing will take me about 5 years!

The sun makes goats sing.....it would seem

It's been a really busy week again, so no posts since last weekend.
Peahead was unusually romantic this valentines. We both took the day off work, I got breakfast in bed and a bunch of beautiful red roses. Then it was out and about for the day. We had a drive over to
Clitheroe to see the Julie Arkell exhibition at the Platform Gallery - all kinds of knitted stuff including this collection of knitted beastie specimens kept in jars, all individually labeled. We stopped for lunch at the Emporium and then drove over Pendle Hill to see if we could spot our house on the other side of the Valley. We could just about make it out, but the picture didn't turn out too well. Looks strangely flat because you can't see the valley below.

Work was pretty horrific this week. Two really late nights with meetings and then on Friday, an audit of one of my projects by Government Office. The guy went through four years worth of financial records and asked questions about every penny, it took from 8am until 3pm. My boss bought me a nice bunch of flowers and some chocolates to make up for it. They smell amazing and look pretty sweet in my Kelbrook jug.

Today the sun was shining, so I got up early to go to the farmers market in Colne with Bert. We got some lumpy pink potatoes for dinner tomorrow and a red hellebore for the garden. Couldn't help but call in the charity shop and picked up this amazing assortment of vintage silks and cottons for 50p. I might attempt those embroidery prints now.

With the sun still shining, the babes went free ranging while I tidied the garden for the rest of the afternoon. Bosie's ankles are getting better, but look terrible as all the fur has dropped off. It should grow back soon though.

Oscar was so happy he was singling!

Spike was enjoying the sun today too.

Rosie (my neighbour) adopted another westie a few months back. I took a picture of it sitting next to Scampy today. I can't tell them appart.

Wet weekend

With the bulbs starting to show, I was hoping to get outside and tidy the garden ready for spring but it's been raining all day. Stuck in the house, I decided to give Nigella's cup cakes a go. Some how mine don't quite look the same as hers, not sure I'll ever be a domestic goddess.

Peahead keeps moaning at me for dragging the laptop around the house, so I made it a little quilted bag with a pocket for the wi-fi thingy. That should keep it safe (and shut him up for a while).

I also made a little blackbird boiled egg cozy while peahead had an afternoon nap.

The Itchy and Scratchy Show

Bosie has had mites on his ankles. I noticed it a few days after my neighbour had invited a woman she knows to trim the babes toe nails while I was at work thinking she was doing me a favour! I called the vet straight away. Although only Bosie seemed to have the mites, they both had an injection and Bosie had some pain killer and blue spray too, as he had itched his ankles until they were really sore. The vet said that the lady probably hadn't cleaned her clippers and the mites had come from her sheep.

Now the medicine has kicked in and killed the mites, we had to clean out and disinfect the shed and then burn all the old bedding. Bosie seems much better now, and they both had a good time going free range while we did it.

More pictures on flickr.

Old testament weather

fire
Today the weather is evil. We are so high and exposed that the wind and rain make it feel like it's the end of the world. The water is pouring in under, over and through the door. I have given up mopping as I can't keep up with it. The good thing about weather like this is that the wind makes the fire burn hard and hot, so I'm keeping all snugged up in the front room (with the additional aid of a vest, jumper, two thick cardigans and a blanket) and trying not to think about it. I am also trying not to think about the fact I have to go check on the babes before I go to bed!

As a distraction, I have been amusing myself on the internet. I came across the the Perception Laboratory's Face Transformer
a while ago. You can upload an image of yourself and see what you would look like old, young, a different race, different sex or even as a chimp!
Unfortunately the 'save' function doesn't seem to work, so I took pictures of the screen, but you get the idea!

Me as a chimp ....................Me as a man

Old me - I think I kinda look like my mama (one on the right!)

Another fun filled week

Been kinda slack with my posting this week. A phone call from my mum reminded me.
So, what's been happening?.....in event order:

Took peahead to see the Fukuoka exhibition, he agreed with me that the
Ito Ryusuke installation is totally brilliant and if we could afford to buy art, this is what we would buy.

Went visiting last weekend as it was Robbies birthday. Difficult to buy for, so we got him a duck from the same
Wild Republic range of toys that I got my beautiful blackbird. Surely there's no one that wouldn't like these. Peaheads dad made some amazing food as usual (roast sweet potatoes with feta, corrianda, fennel seed and olive oil, yummmy- he makes it look so easy), then off to see Darren, Nicky and the boy Ben. Brilliant. Ben is such a cutie and D&N are such good parents.
These are the cute cushions Nicky made.

Bought the
Go! Team CD, best thing I have bought in ages.

Started to photograph pylons - something I have wanted to do for a while as I find them strangely beautiful. Shots from a moving car don't really do them justice though.

Almost finished my robot from the Jess Hutch book with all the lovely new wool I bought with some of the money mama gave me for Christmas. All I have to do now is sew him up, but this is the bit I'm not too keen on as you can't do it after a couple of glasses of wine - and for me knitting is a late night pursuit accompanied ALWAYS with a glass of red wine or two.

White cat is still here. He is no trouble but pet food is starting to cost me an obscene amount of money, so I think I'm gonna speak to the couple down by the farm who said they would take him.

Again, really busy with work next week, but will try and keep posted.
